Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! What better way to start your day then with some heart shaped red velvet pancakes. This recipe if vegan, however it is easy to change up any recipe and make them red velvet.What a romantic breakfast for you and your loved one(s). Here is what you will and and the steps on how to make these amazing pancakes.
If you are converting your own recipe to a re velvet recipe start by adding a tsp of cocoa at a time until a medium brown, then add your food coloring to a similar shade as the one pictured below. Be careful not to add too much cocoa or your batter will become too thick.
- 1 Cup flour
- 1/8 Tsp salt
- 1Tbs Baking soda
- 2 Tbs canola oil
- 1 Cup water
- 4 Tsp Cocoa powder
- 2 1/2 Tsp Red Food coloring
- 3 Tbs Cream Cheese alternative
- 2 Cups Powdered sugar
- 1/2 Tsp Vanilla
- 1 1/2 Tbs- 2 Tbs water ( You may need a little extra if icing is too think. Add a little at a time though.
- Nonstick frying pan
- Canola Spray
- Plastic squirt bottle
First start off adding all of your dry ingredients into a bowl. Stir them until combined and then add your wet ingredients. Once your batter is a nice deep red without clumps, then you are ready to get started.
Next heat your skillet on a medium heat and spray the pan with canola spray.
Fill a squirt bottle with your batter. This can be a little tricky and you could use a funnel if you have one.
Pipe the heart outline onto the pan and then quickly flood the inside with more batter. Let you hearts cook until they begin to change color around the edges and start to get air bubbles on the top. The trick is to only have to flip your pancakes once. Flip your pancakes and let the other side cook.
In a mini food processor or blender add all of your ingredients. Blend until well incorporated. You can do this by hand, but it may take awhile do to the thickness of the cream cheese.
