I enjoy exploring small health food stores for new vegan items that aren’t carried in main stram business’. On a whim I stopped by Back to Basics in East Greenwich. Every time I have shopped the store I have gone home with a new treat. On this particular day I left with vegan mozzarella shreds by Lisanatti foods and sloppy Joe mix by Gardien. I am usually hesitant to try any new vegan cheese, because most of them aren’t good. I’m def a Daiya kind of girl. I’m also a fan of Vegan Gourmet “cheese” blocks.
I decided to give it a try on a pizza. The melting factor of the cheese was just okay, and for the most part it kept the form of the shreds. The taste was a little off at first, but it could just need some getting used to. It had a sharp bite to it, but oddly left me wanting more. I’d give this product a 5 out of 10. It certainly wasn’t the best tasting cheese substitute, but it also wasn’t bad. I would buy it again if Daiya were not available, but not on a regular basis.
